with a few assembly units, the Airconditioning &
Refrigeration Industry began its real journey towords
self sufficiency only in the late fifties. As such
this Industry is barely four decades old. The industry
is entirely of post-independence growth. Before that
the country's needs were met by imports and large

the appliances along with their personal effects.
It
was during the foreign exchange crisis in late fifties
when the Airconditioning & Refrigeration Industry
in India started producing Appliances such as Airconditioners,
Refrigerators, Water Coolers, Bottle Coolers, Deep

Airconditioning & Refrigeration Equipments, Components
and Controls.

of many hurdles and heavy burden of taxation imposed
by the Government, the Industry gained sufficient
momentum. At present India produces annually over 10
lakh Window and Split Type Airconditioners, approximately
40 lakhs Domestic Refrigerators, 1,00,000 water coolers
and over Rs. 1000 crores worth of Airconditioning
& Refrigeration Equipment and Systems for Industrial
and commercial use.The total turnover of the Industry
is about Rs. 4000 crores.
